Coaching Basketball: What You Need to Do to Win

What are Basketball Camps For?

While Coaching Basketball, one of the first things that should be addressed is conditioning. The ability to out hustle, out work, and have more stamina, could be the difference between winning and losing. This is especially the case towards the end of a hard fought season when your team is making a championship run.

When you begin practicing, the first week typically is set up for drills by the coach to improve the team’s stamina. This takes a big toll on the players from the get go, but eventually you will have them conditioned to teach the game the way you want throughout the year.

Being prepared toward season’s end will promote more success for you and your boys or girls. Not only does conditioning help get a team in shape, but it also helps prevent injuries as well. Being in shape and completing drills such as running, wind sprints and sit ups will help maximize their efforts on and off the court.

Once this week is in the books and the team in shape, most coaches are ready to move to the simple fundamentals of basketball. While this is true, conditioning still be a large part of Coaching Youth Basketball, even though the coach can now focus his attention on other areas of the game.

One of the first things typically addressed is ball handling, which will more than likely start with basic dribbling drills. Some of the drills used in basic dribbling are; dribbling back and forth with one ball, dribbling with two balls at once, and dribbling through legs while walking. In the end, it will help your team protect the ball during each possession.

It is usually during these hard practices that the players will typically feel as if they absolutely hate their coach but, in actuality, they will respect the coach for making them better. This is when the coach becomes more of a mentor than a coach. At least it is usually typical in the grade school and in the high school years.

Once the relationship has reached this pinnacle, it gets a bit more fun. Most coaches will then introduce, offensive and defensive drills allowing a player to shoot and have fun. One of the biggest things coaches try to teach is for a player to have fun. Players who enjoy themselves are those who know where to go and what to be doing on the floor at all times. Obviously you want to win more games, but it’s not the main objective.

Coaching Basketball is something that is well respected because it requires a lot of patience, understanding, and respect. Soon you will understand that as the coach you will lead by example and as the year progresses your players will have a better grasp of the game.

Your Basketball Website – Click Here

The game of basketball has been around for years and thousands of tips have become available. They cover numerous areas of the game, ranging from specific game situations to working on offensive or defensive sides of the ball. Some Basketball Tips are designed to help a player control the ball. However, most tips are specifically designed to prevent and correct mistakes. Let’s go over a few of the best tips available to date.

The most important facet in major sports today is conditioning. However, a more extensive brand of conditioning is required for basketball, making it quite different from other sports. Since you are constantly moving from one end to the other, basketball is widely considered to be a very fast game. Running for long periods of time is common thanks to the duration in between stoppages or timeouts.

A well conditioned athlete will have the ability to perform better in game for longer periods of time, and decrease the likelihood of injury with a muscle strain or pull. Running wind sprints and performing other calisthenics are the primary tactics used to often condition an athlete. When preparing yourself for the game of basketball, you must have the discipline to work and train hard. Once your team has accomplished this, their chances of injury are greatly reduced.

A couple of Basketball Tips that would apply to ball handling would be one, to dribble with both hands at once using two basketballs. Do this while running first back and forth from court end to end and second, from side to side of the court at each foul line and the half court line. And two, would be to practice butterfly dribbles. These are dribbles that pass the ball from hand to hand and between the legs. Be sure to continue to cross hands when passing between the legs and do this on the court the same way as the double dribble.

A more advanced technique that can be utilized to learn effective ball control is by adding a tennis ball to the drill. Basically, continue dribbling while someone throws a tennis ball at you. Catch the tennis ball with your open hand and through it back. However, one must continue to dribble constantly and consistently throughout the catching and throwing of the tennis ball.

These are simply a few of the tremendous amount of basketball tips that most players are already accustomed to from various organized practices that they have participated in. However, the most important Basketball Tip is to work hard.

Do All Basketball Plays Have The Same Goal?

Getting to Know Basketball Positions

Just as with any sport, there are certain movements or plays where everyone plays their part and this play is overall designed with one thing in mind, to score points. Basketball Plays may be somewhat hard to follow when one is watching the game at full speed but, rest assured, they are there.

How to Do Basketball Crossover Moves

There are some things designed for offensive and defensive maneuvers, and these play types are setup and orderly. Players executing defensive plays are designed to make the opposition do two things – make a bad shot by shooting from a distance with interference from a defending player, and to add extra pressure to the player handling the ball.

In a movie starring Gene Hackman called “Hoosiers”; many of these types of Basketball Plays were presented. While the movies surrounded a high school basketball team and their journey to the Indiana State Championship, the coach emphasized minimum passing of the ball three times prior to taking the shot. This was stressed for two reasons; first, to maintain discipline on the team and help build teamwork, and the second, was to catch the defense out of position. This would usually lead to a score at the basket for the team. As the movie progressed, drills including running around wood chairs and shuffling across the court were also introduced.

With all of this, zones came into play heavily as many of the standard play types were such that a player found it necessary to cover a certain area of the court. This allowed for non-specific player targeting since the player needed to guard the zone from whoever from the opposing team happened to come into that area. As a result, it was a mismatch between players.

Zones typically also have a swinging section called an arm, where players will make adjustments during the game. This can also open up a shot.

When a defensive player guards a specific opposing player and only defends from them, this is considered a man to man play. There is also the famous “Picket Fence” where three players will form a line directly in line with the basket so that they can block opposing players from coming through. With the ball typically given to the best shooter on the team, they will carry the ball drive to the basket along the teammate’s formed line; however, this is considered a last ditch effort play.

While there are a number of plays for many different sports, each are tailored to a specific games distinctive events. Basically each Basketball Play can be designed to either stop an opposing team’s efforts to score or to score themselves. This article covers just a few of the numerous and varied basketball plays.

Basketball Drills: What Every Coach Needs To Know

Everything about Basketball Site

Utilizing Basketball Drills throughout the season can be both effective and enjoyable. The only way you can’t do both is if you don’t teach your kids to do them the right way. Unfortunately they’ll have to endure a lot of stamina and conditioning training throughout the year. These two areas are the most important parts of a basketball team, and if you can have a truly conditioned team, they will be able to run with anyone.

Tips on How to Play Basketball

While most teams are only conditioned for a season, you want your team to be ready for the post season. In order to do this you can use proper conditioning and calisthenics to prepare your team for a championship run. Plus, there are additional drills and workouts you can do to have the ultimate basketball regimen.

If you don’t do anything else in practice, running has to be the #1 priority. It’s the best way your team can get ready for any situation and can adjust appropriately throughout the year. You can use it at the beginning or end of practice, and on some occasions coaches like doing both. Whatever the case may be, conditioning is a priority. One of the age old tactics is to have the kids perform suicides. Whoever comes in last has to run with the next group. This makes everyone run as hard as possible and be ready for the next upcoming game. You also have wind sprints, cross country style running, and several other ways available. In the end you will be able to increase your stamina.

Above all else it’s the one kind of drill you can do that doesn’t pertain to working on a skill. For instance if you have your team doing bunny hops, they will be strengthen their legs to jump higher and get more rebounds. You’ll be surprised at how easy something as small as this drill can benefit your team during the game.

The Basketball Drills that are specifically designed to enhance other aspects of the game are things such as butterfly drills and dribbling with both hands at the same time. This develops ball control by feel and not by sight. Butterfly drills are dribbling with both hands and passing it back and forth between the legs. These are extremely important for developing eye and hand co-ordination. Usually, during this drill, the weaker hand will develop quicker than the good hand will improve and create equality.

Our favorite has to be dribbling a basketball while playing toss with a tennis ball. If you want to make your kids focus, then let them try this until they can do it religiously. When they transfer this ability to the game they can perform all kinds of tricks we wouldn’t have been able to do years ago.

Even though these are only a few of the drills and techniques available, they all are equally important. If you can spend the time learning each Basketball Drill and teaching them to your kids, they will thank you for it later.
